As my style has evolved I’ve been more and more drawn to forties fashion. I love the understated elegance and beautiful streamlined silhouettes. Due to wartime restrictions forties style was all about a fusion of form and function. This is perfectly encapsulated in Number 9 Fashion’s Sweetheart dresses. They are effortlessly elegant dresses that are also comfortable and functional. The Sweetheart dress is perfect for the warmer months, when wearing a petticoat can induce heat stroke. You can slip on this light dress and instantly feel comfortable and glamorous.

This sleeveless dress has a flattering ruched sweetheart neckline and fitted bodice that flares into a circle skirt. The fabric is so soft and light and the cut is really comfortable. This design is definitely going to be a favourite of mine in this scorching Australian summer.

I am wearing my usual size L and there is less stretch to the fabric than other styles I have reviewed from Number 9 so if you’re between sizes I’d recommend consulting their fabulous staff who will happily help you out. The skirt isn’t lined but the fabric is substantial enough for it to not be an issue. I really like the longer skirt on this dress, it sits mid-calf on me which suits the forties styling. It would also be great for taller ladies.

This design comes in four prints: the teal flower bouquet, the navy with red and pink roses, the green and beige polka dots, and the blue with white blossoms. I will be styling the teal flower bouquet, and the navy with red and pink roses.

The teal is such a beautiful soft blue that is perfectly complemented by the bursts of colourful bouquets. These sunny bouquets break up the blue without being too busy. This dress is like a breath of fresh air, and is perfect for a garden party. I styled it with tan accessories. I think it would also look great with yellow, pink or green accessories

This is not your nanna’s rose print! The navy with pink roses and pink roses print is a much bolder look that I really love. It is perfect for a warm night out. I paired this with fuschia and black accessories to make the print pop.
